Previously on our blog, we asked local blogger Sal Godfrey to recommend a few Bath highlights for the ultimate girls’ weekend, so we thought it was only fair that we give the boys the same treatment too. Whether it’s a reunion, a birthday or a stag do, here are Sal’s top recommendations for a boys’ weekend in Bath…

  1. River Adventures Cruise to the Locksbrook Inn

On a gorgeous summer day, there’s nothing better than a cruise along the canal and a pint in a sunny beer garden. River Adventures runs plenty of different tours in and around Bath, but my top choice would be their lunchtime cruise to the Locksbrook Inn, which includes a 90-minute stop at the pub – the perfect Bath lunch break for you and your mates. Depending on how many of you there are, you can join a public cruise or book the whole boat for your party. The Locksbrook has a large, beautiful courtyard right on the canal bank and serves a mouth-watering lunch menu including freshly made pizzas and incredible burgers, alongside lots of brilliant local beers.

  1. Vale House Kitchen Cookery School

Located just 8 miles outside the city (easily accessible by car or bus), Vale House is a cookery school with a difference, providing all sorts of brilliant courses from shooting and fishing to butchery, bread-making and smoking & curing. Whether you fancy shooting some clays, catching and preparing fresh fish, or making your own bacon, these courses are a fantastic bonding experience and always loads of fun! Owners Bod and Annie are wonderfully welcoming and hospitable, and most courses include a delicious lunch as well as lots of treats to take home with you.

  1. Bizarre Bath: The Comedy Walk

Regularly showered with five-star reviews and described as the funniest thing that ever happens in Bath, the Comedy Walk is the perfect way to start your evening and explore the city a little at the same time. Tours cost just £8 per person, leaving from the Huntsman in the centre of town (perfect for a few beers first), and guides will take you on a ramble through the city’s history and culture.

  1. Whisky Socials at The Dark Horse

Bath is full of brilliant bars for a great night out, but my top pick is The Dark Horse, a fabulously atmospheric underground bar hidden away beneath Kingsmead Square. Check out their regular events, including their ‘whisky socials’ where you’ll be guided through a 90-minute whisky tasting by local experts Independent Spirit, or just book one of their private rooms and get in a few rounds of their incredible cocktails.

  1. Bottomless Brunch at The Abbey Hotel

On Sunday morning you’re going to need something special to tackle those hangovers and let you make the most of your second day, so start with the incredible bottomless brunch at the Abbey Hotel – whatever your hangover cure of choice, whether you need waffles and pancakes, coffee and pastries, smashed avocado on toast or a seriously good Full English, you’ll find it here in gloriously generous quantities.
